Jessie & Ian
Jessie & Ian
Hi, we're Jessie and Ian. We live in Chicago, by way of Ohio, Texas, and North Carolina.
Ian is a documentary filmmaker. Jessie makes toys. In January, 2015 we hit the road and headed from Chicago to Zipolite, Mexico for our somewhat delayed honeymoon.
Backstory:
We're kinda slow. We dated for 10 years before we got married. Now, over a year and half after our wedding, we're getting around to our honeymoon. Who knows, maybe we'll celebrate our 15 year anniversary 30 years from now.
Anyway, many years ago, when we were first dating, Jessie said that someday she wanted to buy an old car and drive through Mexico. Then, shortly after college, we ended up living and working in Oaxaca, Mexico, much of that time spent in the little beach town of Zipolite. It's also where we got engaged several years later.
So, here we are. We bought an old truck to sleep in, packed our flip-flops, camping hatchets and uni-sex sarongs and we're getting out of town, headed back to Zipolite and places in-between.
Why the name "Overmoon?"
Really we just slammed two words together. "Overland" and "honeymoon."
Overlanding is the "self-reliant overland travel to remote destinations where the journey is the principal goal." For us, the journey is definitely the principal goal. We hope, even after this trip is over, we will remember that. Our plan is to keep this site going to chart future adventures, so that our friends and family (read: parents) can follow along.
We would like to thank those who've gone before us and shared their experiences so generously. We have planned this trip in great part with the help of people like Ruined Adventures, Life Remotely, and Home on the Highway, whose sites have been invaluable. Also many thanks to the 4Runner forum, Yotatech, Overland Expo and Expedition Portal. Thank you, thank you, thank you!
